The country invested 230 million to manage six rivers in Meilan District, Haikou City, Hainan Province.

On December 12, it was learned from the Haikou Municipal Government that according to the notice from the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Finance on carrying out pilot planning for the comprehensive improvement of key counties in the governance of small and medium-sized rivers, Haikou Meilan District has been identified by the Ministry of Water Resources as a key area for the governance of small and medium-sized rivers nationwide. Six rivers in Meilan District (Nanyang River, Yanzhou River, Luoya River, Yanfeng East River, Yanfeng West River, and Furong River) will be improved as pilot projects for the comprehensive improvement of key counties in the governance of small and medium-sized rivers. According to reports, the project is planned to be implemented over three years from 2013 to 2015, with a total investment of approximately 230 million yuan. Currently, Haikou is implementing the key county governance of small and medium-sized rivers in Meilan District.
